The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation. HD is looking for a Project Manager, Nigeria
PROJECT MANAGER
START DATE: February 2016
Reporting to the Africa Regional Director and based in Abuja, Nigeria the successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Adviser for Africa, and provide support to HD’s work in Nigeria. In particular, s/he will:
Co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the projects;
Monitor political developments impacting the projects, and provide substantive input and advice to further project objectives;
Represent HD in meetings with key stakeholders, including the Government, civil society, donor agencies, international actors, and others;
Draft project descriptions, concept notes and other material discussing the various projects;
Plan and co-ordinate HD meetings in Nigeria;
Maintain regular contact with HD’s peer organisations, and stay informed about activities which are relevant to the project;
Develop new actions and secure funding accordingly;
Prepare budgets, donors proposals and reports;
Set up and oversee HD’s Nigeria office, including registration in host country, general maintenance, financial management, inventory, security and compliance with HD’s rules and policies;
Oversee personnel matters, including hiring, supervising and developing project-related staff and consultants;
Ensure close collaboration with HD’s Regional Africa Office in Nairobi, Kenya in the management of the administrative and logistical aspects of the Nigeria-based projects;
Travel as the projects requires.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The relevant candidate should have a Master’s degree in conflict resolution/political science/development studies or a related field. In addition, s/he should have:
In-depth knowledge of African affairs and significant professional experience in Nigeria;
Extensive knowledge of, or experience in, international peace and security issues as well as conflictmediation;
7 to 15 years’ work experience in an international environment, with an emphasis on West Africa and Nigeria;
Experience in project management and development of new projects as well as fundraising;
Experience in building and managing networks and preparing high-level gatherings;
Experience in managing, and working as part of, a team of staff in a project setting;
Experience in political analysis in the area of conflict resolution would be considered an asset.
In addition, the successful applicant should:
Be proactive and highly-motivated, with a strong sense of initiative and creativity;
Have the capacity to plan and manage several projects simultaneously and independently in a fast-paced environment, keeping a keen attention to details;
Show flexibility and resourcefulness in finding solutions to unexpected problems as well as an ability to work well under pressure;
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
Have a good judgment and be discreet in handling sensitive information;
Have excellent diplomatic, interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to work well with high-level personalities in sensitive environments and high stress situations;
Have strong abilities to work in an inter-cultural environment, either independently or as part of a team.
